A Community United Against Violence
Hello, friends and neighbors,
My name is Shelli Shields, and as the Executive Director of the Grayson Crisis Center, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with individuals and families who have faced unimaginable challenges. Today, I want to speak to you not just as the leader of this organization but as a fellow member of this community,  a community that I deeply care about and believe in.
When I look at the statistics, 1 in 5 men and 2 in 5 women in Texas will be victims of sexual assault, and 1 in 3 Texans will experience domestic violence,  I feel a profound sense of responsibility. These aren’t just numbers to me; they are our family members, our friends, our neighbors. They are people you and I know, people who might be suffering in silence, unsure of where to turn. At the Grayson Crisis Center, we see the faces behind these statistics every day, and we are committed to being there for them.
One of those faces is Jessica, a courageous woman who came to us seeking safety and support. Jessica had been living in an abusive relationship for years, but she found the strength to reach out to us after a particularly frightening incident. Thanks to our emergency shelter, counseling services, and advocacy programs, Jessica was able to rebuild her life. Today, she is not only safe but thriving, pursuing her dreams and helping others through her story. Her journey from fear to empowerment is a testament to the difference your support can make.
But we need you, our community, to stand with us. Whether you’re a survivor, a concerned neighbor, a healthcare provider, or an educator, each of you plays a critical role in our mission to end domestic violence and sexual assault. Your support, whether it’s through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness, makes all the difference. Together, we can create a community where every individual feels safe, supported, and empowered.
As North Texas Giving Day approaches on September 19th, I invite you to join us in this fight. This day is more than just a fundraiser—it’s an opportunity for all of us to come together and show that we care. Every dollar raised helps provide shelter, counseling, and hope to those who need it most. But beyond the financial support, your involvement sends a powerful message to survivors: You are not alone, and this community is here for you.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. Together, we can make Grayson County a safer place for everyone.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Shelli Shields

Body of email:

Dear Aiden Jo,

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Christy Sprowl, and I’m reaching out on behalf of the Crisis Center for Women in Grayson County. Our mission is to empower survivors of family violence and sexual assault by providing vital support and resources, as well as raising awareness in the community about these critical issues.

I wanted to share an incredible story with you that highlights the profound impact our organization is having on local families. Recently, we worked with a brave survivor who overcame immense challenges and is now thriving, thanks to the support she received from the Crisis Center. Her journey is a testament to the power of community and the importance of the services we provide.

In addition to this powerful story, we have several upcoming initiatives, including our participation in the North Texas Giving Day. This event will not only raise much-needed funds for the Crisis Center, but it will also amplify our message of hope and healing throughout the region.

We would be honored if you would consider covering this story or joining us at the event. We can arrange an interview with our Executive Director, Shelli Shields, or connect you with survivors who are willing to share their experiences (with their consent). I believe this story would resonate deeply with your audience and shine a light on the importance of supporting survivors in our community.

Please feel free to reach out to me at 903-423-0253 if you’re interested in learning more. I’m happy to provide additional details or coordinate an interview at your convenience.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with you in raising awareness and empowering survivors.

Best regards,

Christy Sprowl
