The Evolution of My Goal-Setting Mindset
Goal setting has always been a double-edged sword for me. At times, it fuels my ambition and pushes me toward success, but other times, it can feel overwhelming or restrictive. I’ve come to realize that I am very much a “put into action” person. I don’t like waiting for the perfect time or the perfect conditions—I just start. That’s why Mel Robbins' philosophy resonated so deeply with me. She preaches the power of immediate action, something I’ve always believed in and encouraged among my peers.
That’s not to say I don’t set goals for myself. I do. In fact, I have long-term goals that drive my ambitions. However, I’ve found that focusing on the actions I need to take now, rather than getting caught up in the grand vision, is what truly propels me forward. Setting small daily goals keeps me accountable and ensures I’m consistently making progress, no matter how small the steps may seem.
Shifting Perspectives on My Goals
When I first wrote my goals for Portfolio I, my short-term goal was to become a content creator in 2025. Now, here we are in 2025, and while I am creating content, I’ve realized that I only have the capacity to do so for my own business. At this point in my life—balancing school, running my business, serving on the board of an organization, and homeschooling my daughter—I simply cannot take on additional clients or projects. It wouldn’t be fair to them, and it wouldn’t allow me to fully focus on my craft.
Why My Circumstances Have Changed and How I Am Adjusting My Goal
Life looks different now than when I first set my goal. When I initially envisioned becoming a content creator, I imagined working with multiple clients and helping businesses grow their digital presence. However, I underestimated the amount of time and energy it would take to balance all of my responsibilities. Between growing my business, pursuing my education, fulfilling my role on the board of an organization, and homeschooling my daughter, I have realized that my plate is already full. I had to take a step back and reassess whether my initial goal was still realistic.
Instead of striving to become a content creator for multiple clients in 2025, I am adjusting my goal to focus on mastering content creation for my own brand. This shift allows me to refine my skills, improve my editing techniques, and build a portfolio that can support future business opportunities. By focusing solely on my own company’s content, I can develop my expertise without overextending myself or sacrificing quality.
A New, More Relevant Goal for My Current Environment
With these changes in mind, my new goal is to become an expert in creating, managing, and refining content for my own business by the end of 2025. Rather than spreading myself too thin, I want to fully commit to developing high-quality content that enhances my brand and supports my long-term vision. To achieve this, I plan to create a structured content strategy that allows me to be consistent with my digital presence. I will also dedicate time to mastering video editing and graphic design, ensuring that my content stands out and aligns with my brand’s identity.
Another important aspect of this goal is engagement. Instead of just posting content, I want to analyze and refine my approach by tracking engagement and understanding what resonates with my audience. By taking a data-driven approach, I can continuously improve and tailor my strategy to build stronger connections with potential clients. Above all, I am shifting my mindset to focus on consistency rather than perfection. It’s easy to get caught up in overanalyzing content, but the key to success is taking action and learning along the way.
Steps Toward My Medium- and Long-Term Goals
While my short-term goal has changed, my medium-term and long-term goals remain the same. I still want to build a successful marketing company and expand my expertise in digital marketing, but my approach has evolved. One of the most important steps I have taken toward these goals is gaining hands-on experience. By focusing on my own brand’s content first, I am learning what works and what doesn’t in real-time. This trial-and-error process is essential for refining my skills and developing a solid foundation for my marketing business.
In addition to hands-on experience, I am investing in my education to stay ahead of industry trends and best practices. My coursework in digital marketing continues to provide valuable insights that I can apply to my business. I am also building my personal brand by sharing my journey and showcasing my expertise through my content. This not only helps establish credibility but also opens the door for future business opportunities.
Expanding my network is another critical step toward my long-term goals. My involvement in industry organizations and networking events has allowed me to connect with professionals who share similar interests. These connections can lead to collaborations, mentorships, and potential business partnerships in the future. By immersing myself in the industry and surrounding myself with like-minded individuals, I am setting myself up for success in the long run.
Final Thoughts
This journey has taught me that goal setting isn’t about rigidly sticking to a plan—it’s about adapting and taking action. My original goal of becoming a content creator for multiple clients no longer aligns with my current circumstances, and that’s okay. Instead of viewing this as a setback, I see it as an opportunity to focus on what truly matters: building my skills, refining my brand, and setting a strong foundation for my future marketing company.
Rather than waiting for the perfect time, I am embracing the process and making intentional progress every day. By focusing on my own content creation and development, I am preparing myself for long-term success. When the time comes to expand my services and take on clients, I will be more than ready.
Success isn’t about reaching a specific goal at a specific time—it’s about growing, learning, and adjusting along the way. Here’s to evolving goals, intentional action, and continuous progress—one step at a time.
